Ladies and gentlemen…we have a winner. That’s right, last night at midnight our mermaid contest came to a close.
To enter, Evening and I asked you to leave a comment telling us what you thought our happy Caribbean mermaid would be when she grows up. Your answers were absolutely delightful, fun, and imaginative. They are still making me smile!
Here’s what you came up with:
- a rock 'n roll star (and who wouldn't buy her CD?)
- an aquarium worker
- a teacher (I wouldn't miss a class!)
- a water ballet dancer (lovely!)
- she could live near Aruba!
- a "wonderful, free spirited mermaid mummy". There were actually two entries suggested she be a mer-mummy (of course, I'm rather partial to this myself!)
- an undersea veterinarian (one word: AWESOME)
- a deep sea diver or dive instructor
- President (she'd be the first mermaid President ever!)
- Queen (and President too! Why not?)
- she could join the Coast Guard and be a hero!
- one of you thought that being a mermaid was enough all on its own (hugs)
- an astronaut (mermaids in space!!!)
- an undersea adventuress with a water dragon sidekick (you amazed me with this one)
- she could live happily with the prince
- a marine biologist (naturally)
- a synchronized swimming instructor (I bet she'd be great at that).
How fantastic is that list! I love you guys, seriously. I want to write a story for each and every one of those possible futures for the mermaid.
To select only one winner, we assigned the entries a specific number, and used a random number generator online to make the choice for us.
Which is how we found out that the winner of the Caribbean Mermaid lady is Yaya who commented "I think the mermaid would be wonderful in the Coast Guard saving lives out in the ocean...mermaids can be heros!"
Congratulations Yaya!! I'll be contacting you soon to get your mailing address and the mermaid will be on her way to you!

Congrats to Yaya! Just look at all the great ideas you have for stories! Be sure to let us know when you start...
