I had some trouble deciding what to give Evening for her birthday. She’s at that stage where the things she likes to play with are not toys at all (but don’t tell her that!).
Her current favourite? A metal camping coffee pot that makes a wonderful noise when you whack it with a spoon.
However, any mummy knows that a good toy also means a break for mummy that doesn’t involve perfect silence while the little one naps. The search was on.
Then I found something called a ‘busy board’ on pinterest, and we were on. I’m not going to include a tutorial on how to make one of these, because glancing at the picture will reveal all.
Yes, it’s just a piece of wood that I painted up with some bright colours and secured several different types of fasteners and fascinators to.
Then, the worst part: waiting and waiting for EVER to give it to her.
But then I finally got to, and it was a big hit with her party guests too.
The door stopper, with accompanying funny sound, is by far her favourite (just be sure to remove the plastic tip – it’s a choke hazard!). The ‘burrrr’ noise is a common sound in our house now. And who can blame her? I remember how much I loved those things when I was little!
I caught her lying on her belly just yesterday, completely engrossed in a loop of embroidery thread
There's no need to worry about the camping coffee pot, though. She still loves it - nothing makes quite so much noise as a metal coffee pot.

You did a great job! Evening is blessed to have such a creative mommy willing to go the extra mile for that special gift! Wish I had thought to do this when mine were younger. Metal pots and spoons have been a toy staple in our home as well.

DeleteWow, very impressive! That should keep her busy, at least for a while.
